Veteran charity organisations need our full support in order to realise their respective missions. These organisations have been established to support veteran welfare or to support a cause that are dear to veterans’ hearts like war amputees, orphaned children, and the like.

Clearly, veteran charity organisations are there for a reason. When we provide support to them in one way or another, we are affirming the tremendous respect and gratitude that we owe all the people who fought in wars so that we can live in peace.

War is one of the ugliest undertakings ever invented by humanity. Bloodshed must be avoided as much as possible. Time and again, however, certain conflicts can never be resolved without resorting to violence.

The two world wars are a grim reminder of the cost of peace. The presence of veterans at gatherings that commemorate these events are a stark reminder that the human spirit can never be extinguished by fear, slavery or terror.

The veterans are the survivors or victors of countless wars fought to preserve the freedom of thought, religion or government. They never went to war to relish combat but to preserve a way of life or world peace. While many of them have been conscripted to service, there are brave souls who volunteer in the service of their country.

Governments must never plan to have a war. However, they should have the manpower and other resources necessary to preserve their interests like the rule of law, the pursuit of justice, and the protection of individuals who are unable to protect themselves against violence and aggression.

To accomplish these seemingly impossible feats, military budget, the size of armies, and state propaganda are needed. And so while pacifism is adopted by certain states, the fact remains that being prepared for war is a necessary deterrent for aggressors or bullies on the world stage.

Being a peace-loving nation isn’t an assurance or guarantee of not being drawn into war. There have been countless examples of nations invaded by hostile forces because they could. That’s why having reliable strategy, tactics, and training are essential to deterrence as well as military success.

Aside from putting them on a pedestal, veterans should be a valuable resource for success in the battlefield. Countries that know how to take care of their veterans are in turn rewarded with loyalty, respect and restraint from their neighbors.

On the other hand, participation in joint military exercises keep cooperation, preparedness, and war expertise at an all-time high. Combat can never be totally eradicated for as long as there is something to contest–and this can be anything. Drones, robots, and spy planes are nice to have, but a soldier on foot will always be in demand.
