How To Remove Water Spots And Keep Stainless Steel Sinks Clean

Hard water tends to create ugly white marks on stainless steel kitchen sinks that can be difficult to get rid of because of the limited choices you have for cleaners that can be used on the steel. Getting rid of these stains will keep your sink in excellent condition and ensure that it looks appealing all the time.

Instead of spending lots of money on commercial products, you can use items from your kitchen cupboards to make your own stain remover. The following steps are great at keeping Stainless Steel Sinks free from water marks.

Step 1 — Mix together one part of white vinegar and three parts of baking soda in a bowl and stir until the baking soda has dissolved and a paste has formed.

Step 2 — Using a soft washcloth, take a small amount of the paste and rub over the stains until they disappear. For best results, apply in a circular motion.

Step 3 — Remove the paste and hard water residue by rinsing with cold water. Stubborn water marks can be treated with lemon juice.

Step 4 — Put some lemon juice into a spray bottle and spray onto the water stains. Leave for about 10 minutes and then rub again with a washcloth. Use clean, cold water to rinse off the lemon juice.

Keeping your sink sparkling clean

The best and easiest way to keep a sink shiny is to clean it regularly, before it gets too bad. If you’ve taken the trouble to wash all your dishes, then you might as well take it a little further and give your sink a good clean as well. A quick, but thorough clean with a kitchen sponge and brush will help to prevent grime and lime-scale from building up.

Although there is a wide variety of drain cleaning products available, they do contain chemicals that are potentially dangerous to the environment. Instead, make your own drain cleaner from ingredients in your cupboards, such as vinegar, baking soda and boiling water and do the following:

• Make sure your sink is reasonably dry and pour one cup of baking soda into the drain
• Follow with two cups boiling water and leave for about two minutes
• Pour another cup of baking soda into the drain, add one cup of white vinegar and put the plug in
• Leave for about five minutes, then flush again with more boiling water
