Stress Counselling, Yes Or No?

Stress Counselling, yes or no? A question that has come up a lot in the times of today (Covid 19) has to be where, how, and if Stress Counselling is a viable option when it comes to handling the problems we face daily due to this situation.

My unprofessional and personal opinion is, YES, and no matter what the cause of stress counseling is something anyone should consider but the wheres, hows, and who’s is always a huge factor when considering the option of Stress Counselling.

As many states have lockdown laws that are either still in place or lifted which will give you access to professionals no matter which state of lockdown you are in, I, personally, feel that it is not always necessary to got direct to the professionals but depending on the level of stress all you may need is an ear of a loved one.

I am not saying you shouldn’t consult a professional but just like a counselor mostly listens before advising and steps to take as per what you talk about, I feel 80 percent of stress is relieved from the talking about its side of the counseling.

This, due to personal experience, I have learned that when it comes to this type of counseling an ear of a loved and trusted person or a shoulder to cry on, can help in times of most stress levels.

What a lot of stressed persons do not know is that that ear or shoulder might have had a similar experience and found a way out and can advise.

Only if the problem is so severe that the stress levels may lead to depression and other clinical or psychological problems or relates to an already active problem, clinically, then it is a MUST get proper and professional counseling.

So Stress Counselling can be effective and achieved in different ways:

• 1: A loved one who has had similar stress problems and overcame it, and is willing and capable of listening, for the least, and then advising as per their own experience.
• 2: A trusted non-medical professional, like a priest, colleague or HR manager, or even a community leader.
• 3: A trained and professional medical person other than a Psychiatrist or Psychologist, like your GP, a nurse, paramedics, or a suicide or stress hot-line agent.
• 4: The Psychiatrist or Psychologist (but this I feel is more for the more severe and complicated stress cases.

So to roundup yes it is a good thing to consider when going through stress but there are always options to consider.
