Stainless Steel Benches: A Design Guide

Stainless steel benches are highly preferred for by commercial kitchens and restaurants. High-durability and versatility of operation (compatibility to a large variety of applications) account for the high popularity of these commercial grade worktables.

Although all Stainless steel benches worktables are of high quality, you still have choices as to the type of steel used in the construction of the table. The costlier options make for ultra-durable and heavy-duty benches, whereas there are also more affordable or budget options that are normally chosen for lighter operations.

In this article, however, we will focus exclusively on the design particularities of these worktables and discuss what designs best suit different sorts of kitchen environments.

Design Options

Open Base or Under-shelves?

When it comes to design particularities, you have two principal options. You can either go for an open base workbench or you may choose one with under-shelves. The choice will primarily depend on how much space you have at your disposal. If you have a large kitchen (likely with more than one workbench) with enough space to store other appliances or boxes, it is advisable that you go for an open base table. You can easily slink in ingredient bins below the surface with an open base steel bench. It is also easier to clean the kitchen floors with an open base table.

On the other hand, benches equipped with undershelves are ideal for smaller commercial kitchens. The shelves allow you to store your extra equipment and small ware in a neat fashion and thus maximize your available space. This neatness is extremely important in a commercial environment. Otherwise, it will take but little time for chaos to set in!

Casters and drawers
Apart from these two basic options, other design particularities include drawers and casters. Of course, both of these options apply only to open base worktables (after all, what use casters be in a small space?). Drawers come handy with open base tables since they allow you some extra space for storing tools that you will need in a frequent basis—so we’re talking labels, gloves, knives, container boxes and so on. This will help make the kitchen-work more time-efficient and we need hardly stress the value of time in a commercial environment.

Casters, on the other hand, are really helpful since they allow your workers to move the worktable freely enough. And the casters are also extremely helpful when it comes to cleaning the kitchen. One thing though, that casters increase the worktable height (so, you may consider it twice of you’ve too many short persons on your staff!)

Finally, you can also opt for a table with a backsplash to protect the kitchen walls from dips and stains.
