It is composed of 50% silicon and 50% carbon and can only grow in conditions that are star-like capable of vaporizing diamond.

Restriction on Sales

Because of an existing Patent restriction that covers all types of Silicon Carbide crystals, it still not possible to offer the Amora lab gem for sale in some 27 countries until at the end of 2015. This is because currently Moissanite (Silicon Carbide) has protection from being cut into gem form through a patent in approximately 27 countries held by Charles and Colvard.

Some of the countries covered by the restriction include Belgium, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Finland, Denmark, Greece, Ireland, Luxembourg, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Netherlands, Austria, Australia,Canada, Hong Kong, Portugal, Sweden, Brazil, China, Japan, Russia, Mexico.

This Patent expires during the course of 2016 for the majority of these countries with the exception of Mexico where it will expire in 2018.
