Tradies are often exposed to the most unhealthy work conditions. They often work long hours in hot or cold environments and have to deal with machinery and heavy equipment all day long. It is so easy for tradies to ignore their health when they are too busy performing their tasks and responsibilities. However, health and safety for tradies should still be prioritized. Staying healthy and safe is actually possible, regardless of how busy your daily schedule may be. Here are ways how.

Watch Your Nourishment

Try not to skip meals and always eat on time if possible. Try to maintain a healthy balance of proteins, carbs, and fats, making sure to consume plenty of fiber and nutrient-rich food. Stick to health and safety for tradies, particularly with carbs and fats. Look for slow-burning fuel such as brown rice and rolled oats. Eat lean meats, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and healthy oils such as olive and sunflower. The goal is to eat for energy and nutrition first and foremost, so stay away from junk food and other high-calorie, empty-nutrient food.

Use Sunscreen.

When handling rough or corrosive materials, always wear gloves that have the right level of protection. Safety shoes or boots are also necessary to prevent crushing injuries to the feet.

Staying hydrated is necessary to help regulate body temperature and replenish fluids that are lost through sweat and urine. Drinking water will help prevent dehydration, eliminate toxins, and help reduce the risk of heatstroke.

Lift Correctly

If your work requires heavy lifting, make sure to lift correctly. Protect your back and make sure to wear protective gear. If the material is too heavy, ask for help or use the proper equipment to lift it safely.
